Juan Aguirre // Bass

Juan J. Aguirre made his professional debut with Arizona Opera Company in 1997 and has since performed around the world in places such as Mexico, Honduras, and Hungary.  Opera roles he has sung include Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Seneca (The Coronation of Poppea), Fr. Laurent (Romeo et Juliette) and Pooh-bah (The Mikado) with UA Opera Theater; Sciarrone (Tosca) with Arizona Opera, Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata) with AZOpera and Opera de Bellas Artes; and Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors) with Wieck Chamber Singers and Orchestra.  He has worked with world-renowned directors/coaches/singers such as Tito Capobianco, Richard Miller, and legendary bass, Jerome Hines.

A regular on musical theatre stages, Juan has interpreted roles such as Javert (Les Miserables) with AZ Onstage Productions, Capt. Von Trapp (The Sound of Music) with Blue Alley Productions, and Caiphas (Jesus Christ Superstar) with AZ Rose Theater Company. In the world of popular music, he has performed regularly in concerts throughout Mexico and the U.S.  He is the bass singer for the country/gospel male quartet, The Presidio Boys, and with The 4GENTS, a renowned doo-wop vocal quartet.

Off stage, Juan has been seen/heard on national television and radio as a bilingual actor and voice-over artist for over 25 years, as well as having appeared in a few feature films.

When not performing, he enjoys stage directing, teaching private voice, and using Opera to teach Language Arts in TUSD’s award winning program, Opening Minds through the Arts (O.M.A).
